The Fighting Irish are 10-0.
There were many small and weird storylines coming into the game, but the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to create their own story with a 42-13 win over the Florida State Seminoles.
With Ian Book out with an injury, many wondered if Brandon Wimbush would be up to the task. It appears that he most certainly was, and despite it not being the most perfect of perfomances, Wimbush played a a really good “Wimbush type of game” aginst the Noles — especially in the first half.
By halftime, Brandon had already thrown 3 touchdown passes, and the Irish were rolling along. Florida State was having their own issues, and those include two turnovers that led to 10 of Notre Dame’s points. The first of FSU’s turnovers was a Nick Coleman interception that he took down to the 3 yard line. The ensuing drive ended shortly after with Miles Boykin touchdown reception.
Notre Dame poured it on from there, and they saw success in the run game with a 58 yard touchdown run from Dexter Williams. Williams would go on to have a 200+ night.
Florida State didn’t let up though, and two Brandon Wimbush interceptions made things get a little interesting in the second half. Well... kind of interesting. Williams took another long run into the endzone, and that put the Irish up 42-13 with 13:10 left in the game.
This game got out of hand early because of the steady play of Brandon Wimbush, and the Irish defense was stout when it needed (some would say when they wanted) to be.
Look... Notre Dame didn’t attempt a pass in the 4th quarter, and they rushed for well over 300 yards against a very good FSU run defense.
It’s a big win for the Irish on senior day, and improves their record to 10-0 on the season and still on target to make the college football playoffs.
