The Hokies bounced back from back-to-back close losses to defeat the Golden Bears, 78-75. Virginia Tech trailed for most of the game but took the lead for the first time in the second half with 3:52 remaining. Cal's Justin Pippen had an open shot at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, but it hit off the rim and bounced out. Six of the seven Hokies players who played in the game scored in double figures. Amani Hansberry led Virginia Tech with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tobi Lawal had 10 points and seven rebounds. For Cal, Dai Dai Ames scored a game-high 21 points on 8-12 shooting with two assists.

The #23 Cavaliers dominated the second half in a 70-55 win over Stanford. Virginia went on an 18-2 run to take a 21-point lead midway through the second half, and they were able to coast to victory from there. Thijs De Ridder led the Cavaliers with 22 points on 8-11 shooting. Chance Mallory had 13 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Malik Thomas added 11 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. For Stanford, Ebuka Okorie finished with 14 points and six rebounds. Benny Gealer hit three three-pointers and scored 15 points.
