Wake Forest: Devin Thomas Suspended, Cornelius Hudson Dismissed From Team

If you thought that Wake Forest's 2015-2016 season couldn't get any worse, then think again. Today head men's basketball coach Danny Manning and athletics director Ron Wellman announced that Devin Thomas has been suspended for the next two games, and that Cornelius Hudson has been dismissed from the team. These are both due to "violations of athletics department policy."

Hudson had much promise coming into this season, and Danny Manning specifically stated that Hudson would be the player who takes a big jump. Hudson was suspended for the first five games on the season, and was really lackluster up until Tuesday night's performance against Pittsburgh. Against the Panthers, Hudson dropped a career-high 22 points, and was 6-10 from beyond the arc. The loss of Hudson does give Wake Forest an open scholarship for 2017.

Devin Thomas has been Wake's best player so far this season. The senior forward is averaging 15.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per contest. His presence will definitely be missed, and he will miss Wake Forest's games against Boston College and Notre Dame. He is clearly a major loss, and Wake Forest will have to rebound much better as a team to make up for his loss. This means that John Collins and Doral Moore should both expect to see increased minutes over the next two games.

A very winnable game against Boston College just got a lot harder. Wow.
