Enhanced Live Box Score

Wake Forest flashed impressive athleticism beating Mount Olive 96-62 tonight without two of their starters from a season ago.  Ishmael Smith and James Johnson each missed the game as Smith is still recovering from offseason surgery and Johnson was suspended for violation of team rules.  It is rumored that Johnson's suspension is alcohol related, this from Wake Forest boards...

James was walking down the street with a young lady and a police officer drove by, the girl was one of his friends and she was holding a drink.  The girl had not turned 21 yet and James is 21 so the girl handed him the drink. James didnt want her to get into trouble so he took it unaware that the ******* cop was going to stop and give him an open container ticket even though he is 21 and blew nothing on the breathalizer.  So he told the coaches what happened and they suspended him for one game.  Pretty rediculous, a kid tries to help a friend, gets a pointless ticket, and then gets suspended from an game.

On the court, LD Williams led the way for Dino Gaudio's team with 22 points on 10-14 shooting.  Al Farouq-Aminu (15 pts, 12 rebs), Tony Woods (15 pts, 8 rebs), and Chas McFarland (12 pts, 4 rebs) each added double-figures.  Jeff Teague also stood out as the sophomore scored 7 points but also dished out 12 assists against just 3 turnovers.

Positives

  • Wake Forest grabbed nearly 60 rebounds, including over half of their own misses (52.3 O Reb%).
  • The Demon Deacon big men protected the basket holding Mount Olive to 11-30 shooting on dunks and layups and forcing their opponent to take 42% of their shots outside the arc.
  • Conversely, Wake Forest had 16 dunks and attacked the basket at will.

Negatives

  • 25 Turnovers which adds up to turning the ball over on nearly 30% of their possessions.
  • 55% FT shooting

Factor of the Game

We'll actually look at multiple factors for this game.  At around the 13 minute mark of the first half, Wake went on a 27-0 run, but it was keyed in the first 7 minutes when their block % spiked to 47%.  This means they were blocking a shot in nearly half of their opponents possessions.  Afterwards, Mount Olive began taking far more three points shots (as much as 3/4 of their possessions included a 3 point shot).
