Kendall Hinton Still Not Medically Cleared

The sophomore quarterback is still rehabbing from a knee injury

According to Les Johns coverage of Dave Clawson’s weekly press conference today, Kendall Hinton has still not been medically cleared to play yet, and that will result in John Wolford getting the start again.

The whole tone of Coach Clawson while discussing Hinton did not suggest to me that he would be a viable option, as the injury is taking longer than originally anticipated to heal.

This brings about a possible question of redshirting Hinton if he cannot go this week. He is still eligible for that redshirt, and whether or not Wake Forest wants to waste a year of his talent for basically two “un-winnable” games against Louisville and Clemson, just to play Boston College and a possible bowl game is an interesting issue to work through.

One notable change is that Kyle Kearns is listed on the depth chart, and will get practice reps with the first team this week. Wolford threw the ball 43 times for 23 completions against Army, managing just 220 yards (5.11 yards per attempt). He also threw three interceptions on the day.

Since most expected Hinton back by now to man the offense, there has been some rumblings by the fan base of Kearns supplanting Wolford and getting some meaningful snaps in the game.

I am of the notion that John Wolford is a fine game-manager, but if a game plan is put together that sees him throw it 40 times with minimal rushing help from running backs, then he is likely not going to succeed.

There is a lot to fix this week with the offense, and most of it starts with giving the ball to Cade Carney and Matt Colburn more than 12 times. Wolford ran 10 times, compared to the 12 combined runs by the backs.
