After a chaotic opening weekend, MyGameSim’s model flags several player-vs-opponent battles that should decide kickoffs from Chicago to Kansas City. Here are the ones worth locking onto.
Justin Jefferson vs. the Chicago Bears
The NFC North’s early litmus test is Minnesota at Chicago (1 p.m. ET, FOX), and the headline individual matchup is Jefferson against a Bears secondary still sorting through Week 1 film. Jefferson opened the year with eight catches, 92 yards and two scores; career-wise he’s torched Chicago for 790 yards and four TDs in 10 meetings. Corner Jaylon Johnson draws the primary assignment after a shaky opener at Carolina.
Our simulations project Jefferson for roughly 134 receiving yards and 1.1 TDs — elite even in a game the model leans heavily toward the Bears (about 38–25, ~84% win rate across 760 sims). On the other side, Caleb Williams is projected for nearly 286 pass yards, 2.8 TDs and 44 rush yards against Brian Flores’ pressure packages — the scheme that flipped Green Bay with four second-half sacks in Week 1. If you love chess matches, this is the board.
Ja'Marr Chase vs. the Houston Texans
Joe Burrow put it plainly after Chase’s quiet two-catch opener: get him the ball. That sets up a classic skill-vs-secondary fight in Cincinnati at Houston (1 p.m. ET, CBS). Houston just allowed Josh Allen to throw for 334 yards with multiple chunk touchdowns; now it faces Chase and Tee Higgins in the same Sunday window.
MyGameSim has Burrow around 366 pass yards and 2.8 TDs, with Chase bouncing back to roughly 111 yards. Houston still edges the game in our model (~32–29, 63% win probability), powered by C.J. Stroud (~302 yards, 3.2 TDs) and Nico Collins (~97 yards). The must-watch lens is Chase winning versus a secondary that just got cooked — and whether Houston’s pass rush can force Burrow off schedule before the deep shots land.
Patrick Mahomes (and Kenneth Walker) vs. the Indianapolis Colts
Sunday Night Football is Indianapolis at Kansas City (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC), and the player-vs-team story starts with Mahomes attacking a Colts pass defense that just surrendered 324 yards to Lamar Jackson amid communication breakdowns. Indianapolis has already adjusted (Akeem Davis-Gaither now wearing the green dot), but Arrowhead is a brutal place to debut a new call cadence.
Our model is emphatic: Chiefs ~34–22 (~86% win rate). Mahomes projects near 264 yards and 2.6 TDs, Travis Kelce around 59 yards, and Kenneth Walker III — fresh off a career-high 173-yard Week 1 — for roughly 94 rush yards. Jayden Daniels vs. Dallas — and CeeDee Lamb vs. Washington
Both NFC East clubs are 0–1 and staring at an ugly early hole in Washington at Dallas (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX). The dual must-watch: Daniels against a Cowboys defense that just got gashed by Jaxson Dart’s bootlegs, and Dak Prescott testing Washington’s secondary with CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens — especially toward Mike Sainristil after Week 1 coverage breakdowns.
Simulations favor Dallas ~29–23 (~69%). Dak is projected near 294 yards and 2.6 TDs, with Lamb (~79) and Pickens (~68) as the clear volume leaders; Daniels still clears 264 pass yards and 2.5 TDs. If Quinnen Williams wins inside without needing blitz help, Daniels’ day gets harder in a hurry. If he doesn’t, the Commanders’ dual-threat package can punish the same edges Dallas left open last week.
Bonus prime time: Malik Nabers vs. the Los Angeles Rams
Monday’s Giants at Rams (8:15 p.m. ET, ESPN/ABC) pairs Nabers — six catches for 69 yards in his ACL return — against a Rams secondary featuring Trent McDuffie, with Myles Garrett sidelined. Our model is essentially a coin flip (~Giants 29, Rams 27.5), with Jaxson Dart projected near 296 pass yards and 2.9 TDs. That uncertainty is the point: Nabers vs. L.A.’s coverage will decide whether New York steals another statement win.
