Georgia Takes No. 1 in Updated MyGameSim CFB Rankings After Ohio State Falls to Oregon

The MyGameSim college football rankings changed hands again after Week 10. Georgia is No. 1. Indiana, which spent one week at the top, slid to No. 2 on a bye. Ohio State dropped to No. 4 after a 41-28 home loss to Oregon.

Georgia

Georgia earned the top spot the loud way. The Bulldogs went into Oxford and beat Ole Miss 42-7, a result that both locked in the No. 1 ranking and knocked the Rebels three spots to No. 24. One week after Indiana took over the top line, Georgia took it back.

Ohio State's second straight loss was the other half of that shuffle. Oregon walked into Columbus, scored 41, and handed the Buckeyes their third defeat of the season. Ohio State is still a top-five team on the overall profile. It is no longer a top-three team after two rough Saturdays in a row.

The games that moved the board

  • Wake Forest jumped four spots to No. 3 after a 77-0 win over Merrimack. The Demon Deacons are 8-1, and with Ohio State slipping and Miami taking a loss, the door opened for a big climb.
  • Notre Dame knocked off Miami 31-24 in South Bend. The Hurricanes are 8-1 and stayed at No. 8. The Irish held at No. 12. The win mattered more for Miami's unbeaten streak than for the ranking math.
  • Utah beat BYU 28-20 in the Holy War and entered the Top 25 at No. 25. The Utes are 9-0. BYU stayed at No. 10 despite the loss.
  • Alabama handled LSU 31-13 in Baton Rouge. The Tide slipped one spot to No. 6 anyway, because Wake Forest and Louisville both jumped ahead on cleaner efficiency weeks. LSU held at No. 11.
  • Texas beat Missouri 34-20 and still dropped three spots to No. 7. A solid road win did not keep pace with the teams that passed the Longhorns this week.
  • Tennessee flattened Kentucky 34-6. The Vols moved up two spots to No. 18. Kentucky fell out of the Top 25.

Biggest movers

Oklahoma State (+12, 32 to 20) is the biggest climb of the week by a wide margin. The Cowboys went into Manhattan and beat Kansas State 66-28. Drew Mestemaker threw for four touchdowns, ran for one, and caught one. That is the kind of offensive explosion that forces a computer ranking to recalculate in a hurry.

Wake Forest (+4, 7 to 3) is the biggest mover inside the top five. The Merrimack game was never a test. The climb is mostly about the teams around them: Ohio State lost again, Miami lost for the first time, and Texas slid. Wake Forest did what it needed to do and collected the open spots.

Utah (+3 into the Top 25) finally cracked the cut line at No. 25 after beating BYU. An unbeaten Big 12 team had been hovering just outside. The Holy War win closed the gap.

TCU (-5, 17 to 22) dropped after a 29-28 loss at Arizona. Kentucky (-7, 25 to 32) and Baylor (-4, 24 to 28) left the Top 25. Baylor's exit is the quirky one: the Bears beat Iowa State 42-31 and still fell out, because Oklahoma State and Utah pushed harder from below and the bottom of the board got crowded.

Oregon (+1, 22 to 21) barely moved after knocking off Ohio State. That looks soft until you remember the Ducks were already climbing last week. The win confirmed the profile more than it rewrote it. Ole Miss (-3, 21 to 24) paid for the Georgia blowout. Florida held at No. 15 despite a 23-7 home loss to Oklahoma, another reminder that one afternoon against a ranked team does not wipe out a season of adjusted numbers overnight.
