Rays Favored in World Series Game 4 as the NHL Drops an 11-Game Card

The headliner: Tampa Bay favored by a run in World Series Game 4

The World Series stays in Tampa, and the sims like the home side tonight. Milwaukee at Tampa Bay: the GameSim projection has Tampa Bay 5.5, Milwaukee 4.5, across 100 simulations so far, note once lineups are set the prediction becomes stronger. That is a one-run home call in a series the Brewers already lead, and it is the kind of number that says the Rays are not going quietly.

My take: treat this number for what it is, an early-morning count before lineups lock, when the sims are still building toward the fuller picture. The direction favors Tampa Bay by a run, and the total is where the value conversation starts. After Milwaukee's 10-1 statement in Game 3, a tighter, lower-scoring Game 4 would be the series snapping back to normal, and the sims are pointing that way.

The NHL drops an 11-game card, and Vegas leads the board

Eleven NHL games tonight, and the sims are loudest in the desert. Ottawa at Vegas: Vegas 4.4, Ottawa 3.1, a 1.3-goal home call across 324 simulations. Minnesota at Utah: Minnesota 4.5, Utah 3.3, a 1.2-goal road call. Vancouver at Anaheim: Anaheim 3.8, Vancouver 2.8, a full goal at home.

Two more leans worth noting. Boston at Carolina: Boston 4.5, Carolina 3.8, a road call with some teeth. Florida at Winnipeg: Winnipeg 3.6, Florida 3.1. And Columbus at Philadelphia: Columbus 2.8, Philadelphia 2.2, the lowest-scoring lean on the board.

My take: the Vegas number is the statement of the night, a goal and a third at home against a live Ottawa side. The Minnesota road call is the quieter one to watch, a goal-plus win away from home is never casual. The rest of the card is a coin-flip festival, and that is where the totals and player projections do the real work.

The rest of the NHL card: five games too close to call

Five more games carry margins of a tenth of a goal or two. Los Angeles at Chicago: Los Angeles 3.0, Chicago 2.9. New York at Nashville: Nashville 2.8, New York 2.7. Montreal at St. Louis: St. Louis 3.1, Montreal 3.0. New Jersey at Dallas: Dallas 3.5, New Jersey 3.4. And Buffalo at San Jose: San Jose 3.9, Buffalo 3.3. Those winner picks are lottery tickets. The value, as always, is in the totals and the player projections.

The NBA card: Boston by a wide margin again, plus two road leans

Four NBA games tonight, and the sims are loudest in Boston again. Brooklyn at Boston: Boston 121.8, Brooklyn 105.6, a 16.3-point home call across 360 simulations. Sacramento at San Antonio: San Antonio 115.8, Sacramento 107.1, an 8.7-point home call. And two road leans: Detroit at New York, Detroit 109.9, New York 105.1, and Portland at Los Angeles, Portland 116.8, Los Angeles 113.9.

My take: Boston by 16 a night after winning by 35 is the model saying last night was not a fluke, it is a gap. The Detroit road call is the one to watch, a near-five-point win at Madison Square Garden is a statement if it lands.

The midweek college pair: Western Kentucky big, Sam Houston by a hair

Two college games fill out the Tuesday card. Delaware at Western Kentucky: Western Kentucky 29.0, Delaware 16.2, a 12.8-point home call across 520 simulations. Sam Houston at Missouri State: Sam Houston 25.1, Missouri State 24.8, a 0.4-point call, which is no call at all. One blowout lean, one coin flip, and both worth a look at the totals.

The report card: 6-for-11 on yesterday's featured card

State it plainly first: yesterday's featured card went 6-for-11 on winners. The misses were real, and the biggest one was loud. Dallas beat Philadelphia 38-21 on Monday night after the sims had Philadelphia by 7.7. Cleveland beat Minnesota after the sims had Minnesota by 9.2. Golden State beat Denver after the sims had Denver by 6.7. Dallas beat Miami after the sims had Miami by 2.2, and Charlotte beat Washington after the sims had Washington by 3.9. Those five are on the model, no excuses.

Now the credit side, because the other half of the card held up. The World Series call landed, Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 10-1 in Game 3, the winner right even if nobody saw a nine-run blowout coming. Boston beat Chicago 134-99, the blowout call landing with Chicago's 99 close to the projected 100.8. Milwaukee beat Indiana 110-102, Oklahoma City beat Phoenix, Houston beat Atlanta with Houston's 120 nearly exact on the projected 119.6, and Memphis beat Utah. Six winners right, five wrong, and the closest calls broke both ways. That is an honest split night, and the totals and player projections are where the value held up best.

GameSim line: Tampa Bay edges Milwaukee by a run in Game 4, Vegas handles Ottawa at home, and Boston rolls Brooklyn by a wide margin.

All scores above are MyGameSim projections from the simulations run so far, and none of the games today have been played yet. Yesterday the featured calls went 6-for-11 on winners, with the World Series winner and the Boston blowout right and the Dallas stunner in Philadelphia as the blemish. Run your own sims, check the totals and projected stats, and tell me where the model is wrong today.
