The Deacs traveled to Charlotte and took care of business in its first road game of the year.
Wake Forest used a very strong first half to take control of its first road game of the year early on en route to a 80-57 victory over the Charlotte 49ers.
The 23 point victory is the biggest for Wake Forest on the road since a 95-54 victory over East Carolina in 2008.
Wake led 49-27 at the half and the second half was merely a formality as it got ugly quickly between the fouls, travels, carries, and turnovers on both sides.
Despite a scoreless first half from the front court duo of Terrence Thompson and Doral Moore, who combined for no points or rebounds and 4 fouls, the backcourt put up 37 of the first 49 points.
Thompson finished with 4 points and a rebound, while Moore had 2 points and 5 rebounds.
Freshmen Chaundee Brown and Olivier Sarr also had good games, as they put up the other 12 in the first half.
Sarr had his first career three pointer and had 7 points and 6 rebounds at the half before finishing with 7 and 7.
The Deacs shot lights out in the first half, going 9-15 from behind the arc for a blazing 60%. Interestingly enough Wake did not hit a single three in the second half, finishing 9-25 from behind the three-point line.
A big story was the amount of turnovers that the Deacs were able to force against the 49ers. Last year the Deacs were one of the worst teams in the country in defensive turnover rate, but tonight it forced 20 turnovers against the 49ers. There were 13 steals included in those 20 turnovers, with 3 from both Keyshawn Woods and Brandon Childress.
Jon Davis led the 49ers with 14 points, but also had 8 turnovers to go with it.
The Deacs will host Army on Friday night at 7 PM, while Charlotte will travel to Chattanooga to play the Mocs on Sunday at 1 PM.
