The headliner: No. 3 Indiana walks into the Big House as a road favorite

Noon ET, Ann Arbor, and the biggest game of the college Saturday is a top-20 matchup with a clear lean. Indiana at Michigan: the GameSim projection has Indiana 29.1, Michigan 21.1, across 860 simulations. That is an eight-point road call for the No. 3 team in the country against No. 19 Michigan, and it is not a coin flip wearing a favorite's clothes.
My take: this is the game that tells you whether the sims believe in Indiana or just respect the ranking. An eight-point road margin in a rivalry building says believe. Michigan at home, a ranked opponent, and the model still hands the Hoosiers two scores. If Indiana covers that kind of number on the road, the conversation about this team changes by Sunday morning.
The blowout calls: Auburn, Miami, and a long afternoon for LSU
The board has two statement margins in the noon window. LSU at Auburn: Auburn 38.7, LSU 19.9, across 860 simulations, a nearly 19-point call between two ranked teams, No. 15 LSU visiting No. 16 Auburn. Pittsburgh at Miami: No. 4 Miami 42.6, Pittsburgh 26.7, a 16-point home call.
My take: the Auburn number is the loud one. Ranked-vs-ranked games are not supposed to end by three touchdowns, and the sims just penciled in exactly that. If LSU keeps it close, that is the model missing big. If Auburn rolls, the sims saw something the rankings did not.
The coin flip and the night games: Cincinnati, Oregon, BYU, and Texas
Not everything is a blowout. Texas Tech at Cincinnati: Cincinnati 32.7, Texas Tech 31.3, a 1.4-point call across 860 simulations. That is the day's truest toss-up, and the winner pick there is a lottery ticket. The value, as always, is in the total and the player projections.
The rest of the ranked card: Oregon at Illinois, Oregon 33.3 to 20.2. BYU at UCF, No. 6 BYU 27.0, No. 24 UCF 22.5. And under the lights, Ole Miss at Texas, No. 7 Texas 29.8, Ole Miss 26.1, a field-goal game in Austin. My take: the nightcap is the one to watch if the noon blowouts go chalk, because a close game in Austin with playoff stakes is where a Saturday gets interesting.
World Series Game 2 tonight: Brewers look to go up 2-0
After Milwaukee's 3-2 win in Game 1, the Fall Classic continues at 8:00 PM ET. Rays at Brewers: the early GameSim projection has Milwaukee 4.2, Tampa Bay 3.5, from the first 100 simulations of the day, and that sample builds through the afternoon as lineups lock. The direction matches Game 1, when the sims liked Milwaukee and the Brewers delivered.
My take: Game 1 was a one-run game that landed right where the model said it would, a Milwaukee win by a run. Game 2's early number says more of the same. If Tampa Bay wants this series, tonight is the night to flip the script, because going down 2-0 on the road is a steep hill in October.
On the hardwood tonight: a Texas coin flip and two road leans
The NBA card has its own toss-up. Spurs at Mavericks: Dallas 107.8, San Antonio 107.6, across 360 simulations, a two-tenths-of-a-point margin. That is as tight as the model gets. Elsewhere, Heat at Hornets has Charlotte 107.8, Miami 105.6, and Bucks at 76ers has Milwaukee 112.0, Philadelphia 101.9, a 10-point road call.
The report card: 8-for-10 on winners, and two coin flips that flipped
State it plainly first: last night's featured card went 8-for-10 on winners, and the two misses were the two games the sims called coin flips. Atlanta blew out Charlotte 128-81 after the sims had it Charlotte by two-tenths of a point, and Toronto beat Washington 112-102 after the sims leaned Washington by a point. Those two are on the model, no excuses, and the Hawks result in particular was a blowout nobody saw coming.
Now the credit side, because the rest of the card was strong. The Brewers took World Series Game 1, 3-2, right where the sims had them, a Milwaukee win by a run. Detroit beat Miami 128-111 with the Heat's 111 landing nearly exact against the projected 110.7. The Lakers beat the Clippers 125-117 with the Lakers' 125 close to the projected 121.1. Houston won at San Antonio 114-110 with both scores within a few points of projection, and Colorado beat Tampa Bay 6-3 on the ice. Duke won at Virginia 19-16, another winner the sims had. Eight winners right, two coin flips wrong, and the totals in the two misses went under the projected numbers. That is a winning night with an honest blemish, and the coin flips are exactly why the totals and player projections matter more than the winner pick in a one-point game.
GameSim line: Indiana covers the road number at Michigan, Auburn rolls LSU, Cincinnati edges Texas Tech in the day's coin flip, and the Brewers take a 2-0 World Series lead.
All scores above are MyGameSim projections from the simulations run so far, and none of today's games have been played yet. Last night the featured calls went 8-for-10 on winners with two coin flips that flipped the other way. Run your own sims, check the totals and projected stats, and tell me where the model is wrong today.
