Two of the hottest teams in the country faced off as the No. 16 Virginia Cavaliers outlasted the SMU Mustangs, 72-68. Thijs De Ridder converted 4 straight attempts from the foul line to break a 68-68 tie and put the game away for the Wahoos. Malik Thomas led the way on offense for UVA, scoring 23 points on 7-14 shooting, including 6-10 from three-point range. Thomas recorded his 2nd-career double-double with 11 rebounds in the win as well. De Ridder added 17 points along with 6 rebounds for Ryan Odom's team. Jaron Pierre Jr. paced the Mustangs with 16 points while B.J. Edwards added 13 and Boopie Miller chipped in 12 points in the loss.
