Next victim.

The Syracuse Orange men’s basketball season officially got underway tonight as Colgate took the trip up to the Carrier Dome. The Raiders came into the game intent on shooting as many shots as it could from distance, but it was to no avail as Syracuse ousted Colgate 83-55.

Tyler Roberson started the season off with a bang with back-to-back dunks. Colgate hung around early, but a 19-4 run by Syracuse busted the game open which gave the Orange a 15 point lead. Syracuse took a 49-25 lead into the half behind Roberson’s 16.

The second half was much like the first with Colgate gunning from distance and Syracuse widening its scoring margin. Jim Boeheim did implement the press more in the second half and Syracuse was able to force turnovers that resulted in easy shots at the rim.

Ultimately Colgate never really tested the Orange. Frank Howard, Andrew White, John Gillon and Roberson all finished with double-figures as 10 players scored in the contest. Howard finished just one assist shy of a double-double.

After tonight, Colgate should surely be first in the country in free-throw percentage defense. Syracuse as a team shot 42.1 percent from the line.

Syracuse will host Holy Cross on Tuesday. That game tips at 7 p.m.
