Randolph Childress, a true Wake Forest legend, has added another accomplishment to his illustrious career in Winston-Salem. On Wednesday afternoon, Wake Forest announced that Randolph Childress has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach.

Randolph served as an assistant to the athletic director in 2011-2012, before transitioning to the director of player development for the men’s basketball team in 2012-2013. He has served as an assistant coach for the past three seasons. Considering that he’s only been an assistant coach for three seasons, this is a relatively rapid promotion for Chill.

I can’t specifically speak to Randolph’s role as a coach/teacher of the game, but it’s clear the impact that he has made on the recruiting trail. Randolph was the lead recruiter for Bryant Crawford, who made the all-freshman team last season. He was also listed as the primary recruiter for John Collins, and Dinos Mitoglou. In addition to current players, Childress was the lead recruiter for Melo Eggleston, who is Wake Forest’s only commit in the 2017 class.

Congratulations to Coach Childress on this promotion. I fully expect him to keep making a very positive impact on the Wake Forest basketball program.
