Brandon Childress Signs With Wake Forest

Brandon Childress has officially signed his Letter of Intent with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. He is, of course, the son of Wake Forest legend, and current assistant coach Randolph Childress.

Childress is ranked as a 3-star by 247Sports, and is a top 10 player is the state of North Carolina for 2016.

At 6-0, 170 pounds, he will need to put on some weight, and it will be interesting to see how he is played on the court with Wilbekin and Crawford. He is a lethal three-point shooter (wonder where that comes from), and will be a heavily relied upon shooter from day one.

Although listed as point guard he can certainly fill it up and is probably more of a typically thought of shooting guard in the way he scores the basketball.

Brandon was the first player to commit to Coach Danny Manning for the 2016 class, doing so on October 24th, 2014.

Here is a breakdown of his game from Rob back in March after watching him at the North Carolina Top 80:

Brandon's Strengths:

Brandon is an excellent shooter with a quick release. Jake and I watched him one year ago at this event, and Childress was doing everything but shoot. We were both impressed by how much his shooting has improved in just one year. He will be one of the best shooters on the team the moment he steps foot on Wake's campus.

In the first game he did not demonstrate as much passing ability, but as the games progressed he showed very nice feel in the pick-and-roll game. He also throws a nice alley-oop pass, which makes sense considering that his high school teammates are Kwe Parker and Harry Giles.

Chill finished as the camp's 5th leading scorer with 16 points per game.

Brandon's Areas of Improvement:

Childress does a nice job of attacking and getting to the rim, but he needs to work on converting. He's a solid defender, but must continue to get stronger.

Player Comparison:

Brandon reminds us of a Mitchell Wilbekin-like shooter, but Chill is stronger and a better passer/driver. There's no denying that Brandon can play and has an excellent feel for the game.

Welcome to Wake Forest Brandon, we are proud of your entire family and cannot wait to see you don the Black and Gold!
