Boeheim confirms Dajuan Coleman will not play this season

Orange junior center will not play at all this season, as his coach confirmed a knee injury will force him to redshirt.

Syracuse Orange junior center Dajuann Coleman will not play this season, the program's head coach Jim Boeheim confirmed Monday during the Atlantic Coast Conference's weekly coaches teleconference.

The news is not at all shocking, as Boeheim has said multiple times the odds of the Jamesville-Dewitt product redshirting was high. Coleman, who started at the beginning of his freshman and sophomore seasons, has battled a knee injury that has forced him to miss a large portion of his two-years of eligibility.

This means that the Orange's current frontcourt, which features senior Rakeem Christmas and forward Chris McCullough, will get no relief at all this year. Though, Christmas (17.3 point and 8.3 rebounds per game) and McCullough (10.1 ppg and 7.5 rpg) have been pretty solid without the backup.

As for the future of Coleman? That is still unclear, but it is nice that Syracuse is not forcing his return. Knee injuries with big men are very tricky and the more time Coleman is given to recover the better off he could be in the long run.

Syracuse (10-4) travels to Georgia Tech on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
