Texas is No. 1, Georgia is No. 2, and after that it's Alabama, Florida, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri. That's ten of the league's 16 teams, or more than 60 percent of the conference, ranked in the top 25 at the end of September.

It’s already started. Wake Forest beats somebody at or near the top of the ACC, and it’s bad for the league. I have to admit this narrative bothers me. It bothers me because it’s lazy. Duke also gets a heavy dose of this lazy analysis when they beat teams too. It’s teams and wins, not brands.

The Wolfpack had to survive a scare from the Mountaineers to get a 41-31 victory. After leading the game 21-0 and 28-7, Appalachian State came back to tie the game at 31 in the fourth quarter. Jayden "Duke" Scott scored a go-ahead touchdown on a 16-yard run. Scott finished the game with 148 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Quarterback CJ Bailey completed 24 of 33 passes for 253 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He also had a rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Keenan Jackson caught four passes for 64 yards and a touchdown. For Appalachian State, quarterback Malachi Singleton threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for a touchdown.

Duke secured a dominant 62-7 victory over William & Mary at Wallace Wade Stadium. Starting QB Walker Eget led the aerial attack early by completing 16-of-22 passes for 182 yards and two touchdowns. The second-string QB Dan Mahan entered the lineup and delivered an efficient performance, going 6-of-7 for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore running back Nate Sheppard rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown on nine carries to extend his streak of 100-plus yard performances in every game this season.
