A number of ACC Schools have released updates on their ACC Network facilities. Virginia, Duke, and Georgia Tech are the most recent ACC schools to do this.

The University unveiled Kennedy Tower, the centerpiece of the Olympic sport projects, back in 2015, allowing for full TV coverage of soccer, lacrosse and track and field for both men and women. It also took advantage of its athletic complex construction plans to add all the necessary cabling to bring high-definition broadcasts from all over campus back to the hub inside Blue Devil Tower.

Wednesday’s men’s basketball game versus Georgia Tech was the first, and only, linear production. A dress rehearsal for August’s ACC Network launch, the technical demands for linear (over-the-air television) far surpass those for digital (web), and the athletic department’s video services personnel prepared for weeks in advance, in concert with ESPN, the conference’s television partner.
“I think it went really well,” said Erik Elvgren, a senior producer at U.Va., who served as Wednesday’s technical director, “and certainly the feedback we got back from the ESPN folks who were there … was very good. That’s not to say it was perfect. Obviously there’s a learning curve and things we can improve upon, but that’s why we’re here doing it early before the network.”

The game will be in Russ Chandler Stadium on Wednesday, where Georgia Tech will play Kennesaw State, but the party will be a few hundred yards away, in a snug building freshly attached to the southwest corner of McCamish Pavilion.
That’s where Georgia Tech’s ACC Network Control Center, a $10 million project, will undergo a “soft open” as one of three new control rooms will produce the 5 p.m. baseball game. Video, audio and graphics created there will be fed to ESPN, which in turn will distribute the broadcast through ACC Network Extra, a streaming service available on the WatchESPN app.
