CHAPEL HILL – University of North Carolina men’s basketball senior Desmond Hubert injured his right knee in practice last week and will miss the rest of the 2014-15 season.

Hubert will undergo surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the coming weeks. He will not be able to play again this season.

A forward from Cream Ridge, N. J., Hubert played in 113 games as a Tar Heel, including 18 games he started in 2012-13.

“Desmond is our best defensive post player and a wonderful kid who helps us in so many ways that fans don’t see each day but our coaches and his teammates appreciate,” says Carolina head coach Roy Williams. “I just hate it for the youngster that he won’t be able to play any more in his senior season. Desmond is a great teammate and they will rally around him and give him plenty of support.”

Hubert has been used sparingly this season seeing spot minutes or on specific possessions where defense was a vital element. On the season Hubert averaged 3.9 mpg and was 2-5 from the floor and 3-9 from the FT line with 22 total rebounds.

While Hubert's minutes have been down, this is a tough break for a senior who would have had one last chance to start for UNC on Senior Day.
