The 2026 WNBA playoffs tip Sunday with a tightened eight-team field and a format that rewards depth. First round is best of three in a 1-1-1 setup (higher seed hosts Games 1 and 3). Semifinals are best of five (2-2-1). The Finals stay best of seven (2-2-1-1-1). We simulated every series with home-court patterns baked in through the MyGameSim WNBA engine, then ran 25,000 full-bracket trials. The headline is blunt: the No. 4 Atlanta Dream are the clearest title favorite on the board.

Official seeding: (1) Minnesota Lynx 33-11, (2) Golden State Valkyries 32-12, (3) Las Vegas Aces 31-13, (4) Atlanta Dream 30-14, (5) Washington Mystics 28-16, (6) Indiana Fever 28-16, (7) Dallas Wings 27-17, (8) New York Liberty 26-18.
First Round: Best of Three
(1) Minnesota Lynx vs. (8) New York Liberty
Lynx series win probability: 57%. Game averages favor Minnesota at home (92.6-88.6) and New York at Barclays (91.5-89.7). The Liberty took the season series 2-1, and Breanna Stewart (20.8 PPG) is still a problem for anyone. Olivia Miles (19.8 PPG, 6.0 APG) and Kayla McBride give Minnesota enough juice to grind out two wins, but this is no free pass for the top seed. Expect three games.
(4) Atlanta Dream vs. (5) Washington Mystics
Dream series win probability: 84%. This is the most one-sided opening series in the sims. Atlanta projects at 88.4-76.7 at Gateway Center and still owns the edge on the road. Washington did win the season series 2-1 behind Shakira Austin and a top-tier defensive identity, but our model does not see that carrying over across three games. Angel Reese on the glass and the Gray-Howard wing scoring make Atlanta a nightmare matchup in a short series.
(2) Golden State Valkyries vs. (7) Dallas Wings
Valkyries series win probability: 53%. Coin flip. Golden State swept Dallas 3-0 in the regular season and owns the league's best defensive profile, but Paige Bueckers (20.9 PPG, 5.9 APG) and Arike Ogunbowale keep the Wings dangerous at home (projected 87-84.8 when Dallas hosts). The 1-1-1 format matters here: Dallas gets a real crack at stealing Game 2 in Texas. Slight edge to the No. 2 seed, not a lock.
(3) Las Vegas Aces vs. (6) Indiana Fever
Fever series win probability: 57%. The defending champions are in trouble. Indiana took the season series 2-1, and the sims back it up. A'ja Wilson still averages 26.2 points, but when Indiana hosts, the model has the Fever up 95.1-87.8. Kelsey Mitchell (24.7 PPG) and Caitlin Clark (22.3 PPG, 8.3 APG) give Indiana the league's most explosive offense, and a best-of-three is a brutal place to try to contain that.
Semifinals: Best of Five
If the chalk-adjacent first round holds (Lynx, Dream, Valkyries, Fever), the semis get spicy fast.
Lynx vs. Dream: Atlanta is a massive favorite here (about 76% series win). Even with Minnesota at home, the Dream project to outscore them. That is the biggest red flag for the No. 1 seed in this entire bracket. Washington is the only first-round survivor who would flip that script for Minnesota.
Valkyries vs. Fever: Golden State at roughly 70% in a best of five. The Valkyries' half-court defense travels, and over five games it tends to sand down Indiana's scoring bursts. If Las Vegas somehow survives, Golden State is still a narrow favorite. Dallas, if it upsets Golden State, is surprisingly live against either Western opponent.
Finals Outlook and Title Odds
Across 25,000 bracket simulations with the correct series lengths and home patterns, championship odds shake out like this:
- Atlanta Dream: 48%
- Golden State Valkyries: 14%
- Dallas Wings: 10%
- Indiana Fever: 8%
- Minnesota Lynx: 8%
- Las Vegas Aces: 7%
- New York Liberty: 4%
- Washington Mystics: 2%
The most common Finals pairing in the sims is Valkyries-Dream (23%), with Dream-Wings and Dream-Fever next. When Atlanta reaches the Finals, it is a clear favorite in a best of seven against nearly everyone, including roughly 64% over Golden State and 74% over Indiana.
So yes, Minnesota earned the No. 1 seed the hard way. And yes, Las Vegas is still stacked around Wilson and Jackie Young. But the model keeps pointing at Atlanta: depth, two-way balance, and a bracket path that opens up if Indiana knocks out the Aces. First tip is Sunday. The series lengths are short early and long late. That combination is exactly where upset math and favorite math collide, and right now Atlanta is the team the simulator will not stop picking.
