The three biggest ACC football questions of the week. Here we go for Week 4
Is Georgia Tech’s season over if they lose to Stanford?
Yes, it is. If Georgia Tech loses, it doesn’t mean they won’t win another game or two, but effectively, getting to 6 wins without beating Stanford or a bad Colorado team dooms the Jackets to a total rebuilding year. They did beat Mercer in their last game, but can you really draw anything from that game? A couple of things I’m certain of: Alberto Mendoza is solid at the QB position; if the lines can’t play more consistently, it’s going to be a very long season in Atlanta.
Can the winner of Cal and Clemson be a dark horse contender in the ACC?
The winner of Cal and Clemson moves to 2-0 in the ACC. Both teams started with ugly OOC losses. Clemson got plastered at LSU, and Cal faded late at home against UCLA, but the winner is on a 3-game winning streak. Both teams are flawed, but you won’t be able to discount the winner as a team that could get on a roll and is a factor in the ACC. This is probably the biggest game in the ACC of the weekend.
Is Virginia Tech about to become an ACC contender this weekend?
Virginia Tech has answered every question this year so far with flying colors in James Franklin’s first. I don’t think winning this weekend at Boston College makes the Hokies ACC contenders just yet, but it’s an important step. Boston College can be a sleepy place for a noon game, and a win there would show a lot of growth for Virginia Tech, who have already won at Maryland. The true test is next week, though, against Pittsburgh. I expect the Hokies to come through just fine this weekend.
