The ACC Network seems to be moving closer to a deal with Comcast

One of the questions I was most interested in hearing new ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips talk about was the topic of ACC Network and finalizing a deal with the largest cable carrier in the country COMCAST.

While Phillips can’t say exactly where those negotiations are at, he had some comments appear to indicate this deal is getting closer to happening.

From David Teel…

His comments at ACC Medias Days from sryacuse.com suggested the ACC Network is doing well over all.

Phillips noted that the ACC Network is currently available in 70 million households and both the distribution and revenue are currently ahead of projections.

That’s welcome news to ACC schools. An article from from a few years back from SportsTVRating.com  had the SEC and Big 10 Network at 70 and 65 Million households. It’s probably higher now, but clearly the ACC is in position to be subscriber wise near to those establish networks.

The Pac 12 Network continues to struggle, and the Big 12 has their own current issues with Texas and Oklahoma reportedly looking at the SEC.

So all in all, if Phillips can finish off this deal it would be the first big win of his tenure as ACC Commissioner.
