Syracuse vs. Wake Forest: Orange open as road favorite

After two straight home wins, SU aims to stay true to form on the road.

The Syracuse Orange (6-2, 3-2) have won two straight at home, and now trek out on the road to try and get to win No. 7 on the season against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (4-4, 1-3).

Early on, the betting line was originally Syracuse +6.5 points, according to VegasInsider. However, as of Sunday evening, that line already drifted down to the Orange giving four points.

That’s not necessarily bad or surprising at all, really. SU giving nearly a touchdown on road means they’re about a 10-point favorite on a neutral field against Wake, which seems like a stretch. The line drifting down is likely a result of Wake getting action, plus the acknowledgment that a potent Deacons offense can probably put up points against Syracuse.

SU has lost two straight to Wake Forest, including last year’s 64-43 implosion at the Dome. The Orange lead the all-time series, however, 4-3, winning four straight in between the last two losses and the team’s first meeting in 2006 (when Wake won the ACC).

Syracuse is 5-3 against the spread so far this year, while Wake is just 2-6. The Demon Deacons just came off a big 56-35 win over Louisville, in which they did cover. Though they’re 2-4 in their last six games, Wake is also averaging 33.4 points per game and rushes for more than 232 yards per game. Keep an eye on that note, given the Orange’s struggles stopping the run.

What do you think of the updated line, though? Too high? Too low? At least early, I think Syracuse stands a good chance to win, but it’s going to be another shootout similar to what we just saw this past weekend.
