Syracuse vs. South Carolina State: Previewing the Bulldogs

Let’s preview the Bulldogs, dawg.

In the first three games of the season, the Syracuse Orange (3-0) have won by an average of 31 points. Jim Boeheim’s club is getting it done on both ends as the Orange look like a vintage Syracuse team on the defensive end; Syracuse is currently ranked No. 4 in the country in defensive efficiency, per Ken Pom.

That spells trouble for the South Carolina State Bulldogs (1-2), who come to the Carrier Dome averaging 44 (Brand!) point margins in its losses. The Bulldogs have 40+ point losses to Wichita State and South Carolina, both on the road.

It’s lone win came over the Saint Andrews Knights, who compete in the AAC, which is actually worse than the conference UConn competes in. That’s the Appalachian Athletic Conference. Yep, their lone win came over a Division II team.

South Carolina State does have senior guard Eric Eaves who is leading the team in scoring for the second year in a row. He shoots it well from downtown so Syracuse will have to force him off the three-point line.

SCSU also has a guy named Greg Mortimer who appears to have the ability to mix it up from deep and make plays for teammates. I admittedly don’t know much about SCSU as I haven’t seen them play live, but I doubt they pose much of a threat versus Syracuse.

Here’s to another highlight video like the one below. We’re so close to the “Syracuse hasn’t played anyone or left the State of New York” narrative I can taste it.
