Incoming Syracuse basketball player Joe Girard earned MVP honors this past weekend in the Capitol Hoops Classic.

Soon to be Syracuse Orange basketball player Joe Girard ended his last game as a high-school basketball player this past weekend in the Capitol Hoops Classic by earning MVP honors of the United States All-Star Team. The Capitol Hoops Classic is an annual event held in Washington, D.C., which pits some of the best local DMV players up against various others who are Division I bound.

Despite the losing effort, Girard finished with a team-high 17 points (5-11 on 3s), 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 steals as the Capital All-Stars routed the U.S. All Stars 122-83.

Girard teamed up with his future SU backcourt mate Brycen Goodine for the second time this summer. Goodine finished the game with 5 points, 1 assist and 1 rebound on 2-8 shooting. The two of them played together for much of the contest and exchanged ball-handling duties throughout.

After the game Girard said he’s working out in the gym four days a week playing basketball and on non-basketball days he’s working out with a trainer to improve his strength and speed to prepare for Syracuse and ACC competition.

The game itself was not televised, but you can watch highlights below. If you just want to hear Girard’s post-game interview, I’ve linked the video to begin just before then.
