Syracuse QB Terrel Hunt to Miss 6-9 Months

Well, this is sort of what we'd feared and assumed after yesterday...

Syracuse Orange starting quarterback Terrel Hunt will be out for 6-9 months, Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician has confirmed with a source close to the Orange athletic department. A source close to Hunt confirms that he's 'likely' out for the season following his injury in the first quarter against Rhode Island last night.

Following coach Scott Shafer telling media last night that it was a "significant Achilles injury" to his right leg, this was the assumed outcome. You don't typically offer up remarks like "keep him in your prayers" either unless it's pretty serious. But that doesn't make it any easier for Orange fans to stomach. After a promising offseason that showed Hunt really embracing his leadership role with the team, it's cruel to see him lose a second straight season to injury -- especially this early on, against an inferior opponent. He's a good kid, and deserved better.

Once the school offers confirmation on Hunt's injury and timetable, Syracuse's coaches and Hunt can probably provide a bit more background and feedback on what's been a very difficult 12 hours for all involved. Should he choose to do so, Hunt would likely be able to pursue a medical redshirt for this season and grab a sixth year of eligibility.

So now the Syracuse Orange's hopes are tied to true freshman Eric Dungey. It's not the situation we predicted, expected or wanted, but at least the Oregon QB showed himself fairly poised while leading SU to a 47-0 victory yesterday.

We'll provide more information on Hunt as more is confirmed.
