Syracuse 89, Kennesaw State 42: Orange Dominate Owls In Season Opener

A 16-0 first half run helped the Orange earn a big victory on opening night against Kennesaw State.

Senior Rakeem Christmas scored a game-best 21 points, snagged nine rebounds and added a block to help the Syracuse Orange men's basketball team to earn a season-opening victory, 89-42, over the visiting Kennesaw State Fighting Owls in a non-conference game at the Carrier Dome.

For the first 11 minutes of the game, the Owls hung around trailing by only six points. The Orange opened the game up by clamping down on defense and scoring a ton of fast break points in a 16-0 run. The margin was too much for Kennesaw State to overcome.

Sophomore B.J. Johnson came off the bench to score 19 points on grab eight rebounds, while freshman Chris McCullough added 16 points and a team-best 11 rebounds. Junior Trevor Cooney (12 points) and Tyler Roberson (10) both scored in double figures.

Nigel Pruitt was the only Owl to score in double-digits as he tallied 11 points.

SU earned the victory without the help of junior guard Michael Gbinijewho did not play due to unknown reasons. Once Jim Boeheim address his absence in the post-game press conference we will let you know what's going on.
