The praise train keeps chugging along for the 2017 'Cuse commit.
Syracuse Orange 2017 quarterback commit Tommy DeVito has been grabbing headlines since putting on an impressive showing at the Elite 11 recruiting event. The praise continued this weekend, as he was among the best at The Opening Finals in Beaverton, Ore.
DeVito, from New Jersey's Don Bosco Prep, was named to the 7-on-7 all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event yesterday. While his team, Lunarbeast, lost in the tournament, it didn't derail the hype around his performance at all. As Scout points out, the honor basically makes him the second-best quarterback at the event, behind Alabama commit Tua Tagovailoa.
Bleacher Report's Michael Felder also gave DeVito his "Big Time QB" Award, and seemed to scoff at the notion that there are still 600 players in the country better than the four-star quarterback (according to recruiting rankings, anyway).
Getting credit for things other than his arm, DeVito showed himself to be a fast runner too. He was the fastest QB at the event, with a 4.61-second 40 time, and had the second-fastest shuttle time at 4.06 seconds.
A couple highlights from DeVito's weekend below. You have to love the great showing from him, and the hype it could potentially generate for the Orange as the 2017 recruiting class continues to come together.
