Syracuse: 2015 Guard Franklin Howard Commits To Orange

The four-star guard is part of the 2015 class, joining SG Malachi Richardson and PF Tyler Lydon.

On the same day when Syracuse Orange fans found out they were losing a great player, they may have gained a new one. Four-star guard Franklin Howard committed to play for the Orange starting in 2015 during a televised announcement Monday night.

It's his birthday, too, so Happy Birthday to Franklin. And us, apparently.

Howard chose Syracuse over Georgetown, Maryland, Ohio State, Virginia and NC State. He's rated the 58th overall player in his class by Rivals and 24/7 rates him as the 69th-best player.

The guard tore his ACL while playing AAU ball last summer, missing his entire junior season. He's still considered a top prospect who can recover and play either PG or SG in college. FYI, he played for Team Takeover, which was formerly coached by Adrian Autry and can cite Jerami Grant and Michael Gbinije as alums.

Syracuse needs guard depth and Howard will be a welcome addition to the squad. In fact, he's now one of two guards in the 2015 Class, joining SG Malachi Richardson and PF Tyler Lydon. We probably won't have to replace anyone leaving early (though you never know), so Howard should be walking into a situation where he can contribute but isn't being leaned on too much.
