Whew.

It's not every game you see a performance as prolific as Brice Johnson's 39 points, 23 rebound outing versus Florida State.  As you might imagine, the game notes sent out by UNC included a variety of career highs for Johnson and as well as other "most since/first time since" nuggets. Let's take a look.

-Johnson set the following career highs vs Florida State: Points(39), rebounds(23), field goals(14), free throws(11), free throw attempts(16), offensive rebounds(7), defensive rebounds(16), minutes(37) and tied for steals(3)

-The only Tar Heel with a better points rebound double-double in UNC history is Billy Cunningham who went for 48 points and 28 rebounds vs Tulane and 48 points and 28 rebounds vs Maryland. Both of those occurred in 1964.

-Per ESPN, Brice Johnson joins Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin as the only players in a 20 year span to record this type of double-double.

-Among the "most since" nuggets: Johnson's 14 FGs were the most by a Tar Heel since Joseph Forte had 15 made shots vs FSU in 2001. The 23 rebounds were the most since Sean May's 24 boards vs Duke in 2005 when UNC rallied from nine down with 3 minutes left.

-Tyler Zeller's 20 points and 22 rebounds vs Ohio during the 2012 NCAA Tournament was the last time a UNC player had gone 20 and 20 before Johnson's feat last night.

-Marcus Paige and Brice Johnson became the first pair of Tar Heels to go for 30+ in the same game since Shammond Williams(42 points) and Antawn Jamison(31 points) did it in double overtime vs Georgia Tech in 1998.

-On the season Brice Johnson's offensive rating is now 135.1 which is 13th nationally. In ACC play it is 125.8 with a usage of 26.0%. He is fourth nationally in defensive rebounding rate at 32.0% and first in ACC games at 34.8. His offensive rebounding rate has improved to 11.1 overall and in three ACC games it is 16.8.

-The biggest story might be Johnson's work at the free throw line. After shooting 58% as a freshman, 62% as a sophomore and 68% as a junior, Johnson is hitting 81% of his free throws(54-67) He was actually down last night going 11-16(69%) which means he probably should have topped 40 points.
