Syracuse suffered a third loss in four games.

NEW YORK — Syracuse suffered its third loss in four games on Sunday, falling 84-72 to St. John's inside Madison Square Garden. Despite entering the day as heavy favorites, the Orange were never in control, trailing almost the entire way.

En route to the win, St. John's held off a late Syracuse rally. After trailing 79-66 with four minutes to play, the Orange used a 6-0 run to pull within seven points in a 45-second span. Syracuse could have made it closer, too; SU missed several high-percentage shots down the stretch.

Ultimately, though, what really hurt the Orange was that they allowed St. John's to beat them at their own game. The Red Storm went 12-of-25 from 3-point land, while SU made just five of its own 26 3-point attempts, good for a dismal 19.2% clip from beyond the arc.

The one bright spot for Syracuse: Michael Gbinije was close to flawless, scoring 21 points on 7-of-11 shooting, though he did cool off late and eventually fouled out. His performance wasn't enough to overcome an otherwise bleak performance put forth by Syracuse, which has hit quite a low point after such a strong start to the season.

We'll have more coverage to come, but leave your immediate reactions here in the comments.
