Game Recap

The Orange dropped their second straight game Saturday at the Carrier Dome.

Senior guard Phil Greene IV scored 13 of his 18 points during a 15-3 run that helped the St. John's Red Storm men's basketball team upset the Syracuse Orange, 69-57, in a non-conference contest at the Carrier Dome.

The victory for the Johnnies (6-1) snapped a nine-game game losing streak to Syracuse (5-3), which had its home winning streak in non-conference play end with 55 straight victories . The loss was also the first time the Orange have fallen in back-to-back non-conference games since the 2006-07 season.

Greene was the nail in the Orange coffin, as he drilled three 3-pointers, made a clutch layup and made two free throws in the final four minutes to propel St. John's. Syracuse helped the Red Storm's cause committing two of its 17 turnovers and missing its final four shots in the same timespan.

The loss spoiled another fantastic performance by Syracuse senior center Rakeem Christmas, who tallied 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Frehsman forward Chris McCullough and junior guard Michael Gbinije each scored 13 points. Gbinije played most of the second half as the Orange's point guard, as freshman Kaleb Joseph was shelved in the second half because of poor play.

St. John's D'Angelo Harrison led all scorers with 24 points.

Overall, this loss is a tough one to swallow, especially when Syracuse seemingly had ahold of the game at the 5 1/2-minute mark leading 55-52 with possession. However, St. John's continued to play tough and made plays down the stretch. Syracuse did none of that.

Share you thoughts on the loss below. A more detailed recap will be coming later.
