Game Recap

Notre Dame can still play some really fun basketball

NCAA Basketball: Miami-Florida at Notre Dame Matt Cashore-USA TODAY Sports

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish made it to .500 in ACC play by taking out the Miami-Florida Hurricanes 87-71 in a game that wasn’t nearly as close as the score was when the buzzer went off and 14 three point shots were in the scorebook.

The Irish got off to somewhat of a slow start to the game, and was only 1-13 at one point from the field. Notre Dame went down 19-14 to the Canes as Keith Stone got hot from behind the three point line. That little slump didn’t last long as the Irish took off like a rocket with a 30-10 run to finish out the first half. T.J. Gibbs had 14 points at the break and John Mooney was right with him with 11 points and 9 rebounds.

The second half saw the same consistency, and the Irish went on some solid runs to go up 26 points late in the game. That consistency from Notre Dame produced a 47% shooting percentage from the field and 45% shooting percentage from three point land.

When it was all said and done, Gibbs and Mooney both had 19 points and John’s 12 rebounds gave him another double double. The Irish also got big play off the bench from Dane Goodwin as he added 14 points to the total. At one point it looked like Prentiss Hubb was having an off night, and even though that was mostly true, he still cashed in 15 ppoints of his own along with 10 assists for his own double double.

There were a lot of fun moments from this game as the Irish are playing some really good basketball right now. OFD’s Pat Sullivan was at the game, manned the Twitter account, and his famous detailed recap is ordered up — so I’ll let him have the fun from this VERY fun night.

Notre Dame is still alive for their goal of the NCAA Tournament, and the Irish will look for some revenge against the Boston College Eagles on Wednesday night to keep this train moving.
