Via UNC press release:

University of North Carolina men’s basketball guard Marcus Paige underwent successful arthroscopic surgery today to remove bone spurs in his right ankle.

Paige is expected to resume basketball activities this summer.

The junior from Marion, Iowa, played in all 38 games this year, averaged a team-high 14.1 points and led UNC with 170 assists. He earned Carolina’s Most Valuable Player honors for the second consecutive year.

Dr. Robert Anderson performed the surgery at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Paige, who was named team MVP for a second straight season last week, struggled for most of the 2014-15 season with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. In addition, the junior guard twisted his ankle on more than one occasion hindering his effectiveness. As the regular season drew to a close, Paige said he was pain free and his overall play reflected a return to full health.

Given his importance to the team, UNC and Paige decided to be pro-active and deal with his issue now so he has plenty of time to recover before team summer activities begin.
