The All-American reportedly has an ACL injury

NCAA Football: Georgia Tech at Syracuse Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

Syracuse Orange fans have seen a number of players go down due to injury this season. Unfortunately for SU, one of those injuries was dealt to preseason All-American Andre Cisco during a freak accident in warmups prior to the Georgia Tech game. After a couple of weeks, Dino Babers confirmed the worst-case scenario for the Orange regarding Cisco’s availability.

The Daily Orange’s Anthony Dabbundo reported that a source says that Cisco’s injury is with his ACL and 247sports’s Stephen Bailey later confirmed that report. This all comes after Ed Hendrix reportedly collided with Cisco during those pregame warmups against the Yellow Jackets.

This is just the latest blow to the Syracuse starting lineup that opened up the season against North Carolina, and there may be more bad news on the way. Babers said during his weekly press conference that he’s still waiting to hear reports from his medical team on Tommy DeVito, Jawhar Jordan, and Sean Tucker. Babers says that he thinks Tucker’s prognosis looks better than DeVito’s, who is still on crutches and in a boot. Babers also mentioned that he still needs to wait and see about Jordan’s status for the rest of the season.

Cisco had been rising on draft boards ever since his spectacular freshman season and some early mock drafts have the Syracuse safety going in the first round. Unfortunately for Syracuse fans, Cisco may no longer suit up for the Orange as he might leave Syracuse early. Another report from Dabbundo stated that Cisco is no longer on campus and is back in Florida, where he attended IMG Academy for high school.

There’s no denying Cisco’s impact on the field for the Orange, as he was the active FBS leader in interceptions with 13. His switch to the unique rover position in the 3-3-5 proved to be impactful and a large reason that the SU defense found success and praise through the first couple of games to start the 2020 season.

Cisco’s absence means that true freshman Rob Hanna takes over as the starting rover for the foreseeable future. The most experienced safety among the defensive backs is still Trill Williams with the addition of Eric Coley’s injury as well. The experience and influence of Cisco will be missed for the rest of the season as Syracuse’s young defensive backs continue to get thrown into the frying pan.

Hopefully Andre’s recovery is swift as he looks to get back on a football field sooner rather than later.
