How do we summarize the current state of the Pittsburgh program under Pat Narduzzi? No ACC program has had more ups and downs over the last 10 years than Pitt. There was the 5-7 season in 2017, and the 3-9 season in 2023. The 2021 – 2022 seasons had Pitt at the top of the ACC with an ACC Title in 2021, and a 9-win season in 2022. Last year was Pitt in a nutshell – a 7-0 start gave way to a 0-6 finish. Pat Narduzzi has been at Pittsburgh since 2015 with obvious massive highs and dreadful lows. If you’re looking for the most difficult team in the ACC to predict, it might very well be Pittsburgh.
Will Go 10-2 (6-2) if:
2025 1st Half Pitt can show up for the whole year. Last season, Pittsburgh, through October was defensively opportunistic and occasionally explosive on offense. They were never out of a game either. In a league loaded with quality QBs, Sophomore QB Eli Holstein is flying under the radar, but he’s capable of being one of the top signal callers in the ACC. He’s got a great offensive weapon to work with in all-purpose star Desmond Reid. If Pitt gets by games at West Virginia and Louisville, then they could be playing Notre Dame 8-1, or 9-0.
Will Go 3-9 (1-7) if:
2025 2nd Half Pitt can show up for the whole year. That Pitt team struggled on defense and was erratic at best on offense. That Pitt is losing a lot of games. Central Michigan is a tricky early-season test, then West Virginia, Louisville, Boston College, at FSU, and at Syracuse. Pitt could be looking at a 2-5 start, and that’s before the season gets really tough. The finishing kick is brutal with Notre Dame, a game at Georgia Tech, and then Miami. The defense last year was 122nd against the pass. If that isn’t better in a quality QB league, Pitt could be this year’s 2024 Florida State.
