Wake Forest Football: Recruiting Updates as Camp Season Kicks Off Tonight

Wake Forest football recruiting is about to pick up steam starting Friday.

Unsurprisingly, recruiting news over the last couple of weeks has been minimal for Wake Forest football. While the Deacs did pick up a few commitments since February’s Junior Day, updates on priority recruits have been few and far between recently. That all might change this weekend as the staff gets ready to host its first two Elite One Day Camps of the summer on June 3 & 4 before traveling to Old Dominion to take part in a satellite camp with Michigan, Alabama, and smaller schools from the area.

That being said expect a bunch of newly extended offers in the upcoming week to prospects that catch the staff’s eye and perform well over the course of the three days. Here is a brief rundown of some of the latest things to happen in Wake Forest football recruiting and who we know so far the staff will be watching this weekend.

Jordan Williams Cuts the Deacs

4* Virginia Beach Defensive End Jordan Williams officially cut the Demon Deacons from his list in his most recent Twitter update that listed his top five schools. Wake Forest offered Williams last October and was heavily involved with him over the last 7 months with him being one of the premier recruits to attend Junior Day in February. In March, Wake made his top 9 list, but the Deacs, Notre Dame, Georgia, Penn State, and Florida unfortunately all bit the dust in the most recent trim. Williams was the highest rated prospect Coach Clawson was targeting in this cycle, but that label is now held by 3* DE Mike Allen from Buford, GA.

Top DB Target Trey Creamer Back on Campus

One of the biggest recruits that is confirmed to be visiting this weekend is CB target Trey Creamer out of Cartersville, GA. Creamer is a 3* DB that Wake Forest offered on January 7th and has been heating up on the P5 circuit ever since. Minnesota, West Virginia, and Maryland have all offered, while Georgia Tech had him in for a visit over this past weekend as well. It is excellent news that despite new interest Creamer is still interested in the Deacs and I think landing him is a priority for the 2017 class.

Given that Thomas Brown, Brad Watson, and Ryan Janvion are all set to graduate after this season, the secondary is a position that the staff will have to replenish efficiently in this recruiting cycle. Locking down a 3* DB with significant P5 interest would be a nice start to that large task.

Elite One Day Camp Attendees

Some of the other visitors (per Twitter) attending camp later tonight appear to be 2017 3* DT Darius Stills, 2018 OT Aric Gardner, 2018 RB Dalen Spruill, 2020 DT Chris Thomas, 2018 QB Hamp Sisson, and current favorite for Best WF Recruit Name of the Year Adonicas Sanders (2017 WR). Since many of these players are just beginning their recruiting process, information for them on recruiting websites is hard to come by at the moment. However, I have linked what useful info is available with the players’ names above for those interested. As you can also see, the fact that current freshman are attending this weekend shows just how big this camp is.

Of course, more names will come out of the woodwork over the next couple of hours as we get closer to the start of the events. Expect to see new offers extended and a lot of buzz about the program on social media as recruits talk about their experience and the new facilities. All in all, it should be a great weekend for Wake Forest football and will likely give us a first glimpse at some recruits who will eventually join the class of 2017 and end up wearing the black and gold.
