Game Recap

The Rollin' Ronin returns with a recap of a game against the Tulane Green Wave that probably should've been more of a blowout than it was, but still featured amazing guard play on both sides, especially from Coron Williams.

The Good

Coron Williams Status: A Beast. 18 points on 6-10 shooting, 4-7 from 3, 2-2 at the line.  Coron really got the Deacs going offensively, and he continued to prove that if any space is given to the fifth year player, he will make you pay.  Combine that with 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and it was just overall a great night for Mr. Williams.

Defense...Mostly. Other than Louis Dabney, who was a tremendous 11-15 from the floor, Wake Forest held Tulane to 29% shooting from the field, and even worse from beyond the arc.  Now, is it good that Dabney went off like that?  No, but considering that the Green Wave has a three-pronged guard attack and the other two prongs were absolutely shut down, well...you'll take that if you're Wake.

Domination On The Glass. +15 is always good, no matter who you're playing.

Andre Washington Block Party. The big man had 4 blocks in 11 minutes, including a block so grimy on a would-be dunk it led to a jump ball, which might be my favorite kind.  Big Dre is absolutely asserting himself, and I'm seeing marked improvement in the big guy game by game.

The Bad

Turnovers. 14 TO's for the Deacs.  That's way above the season average, and can't happen.

We Switched Devin Thomas with Tyler Cavanaugh, Let's See If Anyone Notices! One of them was 5-7 shooting, one was 2-5.  Guess which was which?  I mean, don't get me wrong, Tyler has been playing a LOT better recently, but Tulane really seemed to be able to make Devin disappear in this game, which was weird.  I hope to see him rebound and come out strong against Richmond.

Free Throws.  Again. Now granted, we weren't atrocious.  Wake was 11-17 for about 65%.  But we should be shooting 70+% every game, if you ask me.

Less Killer Instinct. Now, we found it at the end of the game, but the fact of the matter is we should've won by more than we did.  Granted, we were in control basically the entire game, but I'll come out and say it, I think this should've been more of a blowout.

The Funny

Tulane has a player named Tomas Bruha, but the way his name was pronounced, all I could think of any time he was announced was this.  It got me every single time, I'm sorry.

The Bottom Line

Should've been more of a blowout, but the fact that I'm able to complain about that now with the way the last few years have been is really a testament to just how much better this team is.  If we manage to beat Richmond on Saturday, that'll be huge; they're definitely one of the most quality mid-majors you'll find.  I'm loving this team.  On to the next.  Go Deacs.
