Roy Williams extends scholarship offer to four-star point guard Jeremiah Francis.
Roy Williams and the North Carolina Tar Heels basketball program offered a scholarship to class of 2019 prospect Jeremiah Francis on Wednesday night. It’s the fourth such offer that Williams has handed out in as many days.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Francis is a four-star point guard from Pickerington, Ohio. He’s entering his junior season at Pickerington Central High School, the alma mater of incoming UNC freshman big man, Sterling Manley.
Francis already held offers from a number of big name programs including Florida State, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio State, Purdue and Virginia Tech. After receiving a phone call from Williams late Wednesday night, though, Francis added North Carolina to that list.
Shortly after, Francis confirmed Williams’ scholarship offer.
“Yes, I did,” Francis told Tar Heel Illustrated. “Coach Williams called around 10 and we talked about the summer. And then he said those magic words. . . I mean it’s UNC it speaks for itself, but I like how Coach Williams plays. He plays my style, fast paced and tough. The kind of coach I like.”
Williams and the North Carolina coaching staff watched Francis play in recent weeks, including at last week’s Bigfoothoops’ Las Vegas Classic. The rising junior stated that Williams told him that he was “watching and comparing him to other point guards in the class”.
North Carolina has a plethora of elite back court personnel that will arrive on campus over the next two seasons, and Francis would certainly add to the Tar Heels’ depth and talent.
Francis is the No. 61 player in the class of 2019 according to the 247Sports Composite. He’s the seventh best point guard prospect in the class and the No. 1 player in the state of Ohio.
Current 247Sports Crystal Ball projections show Ohio State as the early leader in Francis’ recruitment, with North Carolina not far behind.
