Notre Dame: Basketball Early Signing Period Recap

Today begins the Early Signing Period for NCAA basketball, and the Notre Dame basketball family has added 5 new members. Mike Brey's two big men and Muffet McGraw's elite trio are profiled here.

The Early Signing Period began today, and the commitments in both the men's and women's recruiting classes of 2014 wasted no time in sending their National Letters of Intent to the Joyce Center. The five players profiled below fill major needs for their respective teams and make up strong classes in the inaugural ACC season for Notre Dame.

Mike Brey and his men's hoops program needed some big men in this class, and they delivered with the East coast duo of Bonzie Colson and Martin Geben:

PF Bonzie Colson - 6'5" - Barrington, RI - I profiled Colson here at the time of his commitment and think he has a very high ceiling for the Irish. He has had one of the best years in the country on the prep scene and, despite his short stature, brings a very developed, well-rounded game on both ends of the court. He needs to get into "college" shape, but once he does, I think he has all-ACC potential.

PF Martin Geben - 6'9" - Hagerstown, MD - Like Colson, I profiled Geben here when he committed. I likened his game to Rob Kurz, which is as high a compliment as I can give. He looks like he will fill a stretch 4 role for Notre Dame, as he brings good vision and shooting touch while maintaining a willingness on the boards. As a class, Geben and Colson compliment each other really well and bring different but very valuable and surprisingly developed skill sets to the power forward position.

Congrats to Coach Brey and the men who will soon be joining the Notre Dame family!
