Thursday night football, and the sims are not giving the home team the benefit of the doubt. Carolina at Green Bay: the GameSim projection has Carolina 24.4, Green Bay 20.8, across 720 simulations. That is a 3.5-point road call at Lambeau, the kind of number that gets a Thursday night crowd talking before kickoff.

My take: a road favorite in Green Bay on a short week is a bold call, and that is exactly why it leads the slate. The sims have Carolina's offense doing just enough and Green Bay's just short, a one-score game either way. If you like the Packers at home in primetime, the sims are handing you a reason to disagree with them, and that is half the fun. If you like Carolina, the model is already on your side.
The Thursday college pair: North Texas big, James Madison by eight
Two FBS games fill out the Thursday card, and the sims are loudest in Denton. Florida Atlantic at North Texas: North Texas 49.1, Florida Atlantic 34.1, a 15-point home call across 1,000 simulations. Troy at James Madison: James Madison 27.7, Troy 19.8, an 8-point home call, also across 1,000 simulations. And in the FCS opener, South Carolina State at Morgan State: South Carolina State 32.0, Morgan State 27.6, across 300 simulations.
My take: the North Texas number is the statement of the college card, a 15-point call with a 49-point projection is the model saying the Mean Green offense rolls. James Madison by eight is the steadier lean, a two-score cushion at home. One blowout lean, one comfortable home call, and both worth a look at the totals.
The NBA trio: Portland rolls, New Orleans by eight, Atlanta by four
Three NBA games tonight, and the widest margin is out west. Memphis at Portland: Portland 120.6, Memphis 106.4, a 14-point home call across 360 simulations. Sacramento at New Orleans: New Orleans 117.4, Sacramento 109.6, an 8-point home call. And Cleveland at Atlanta: Atlanta 116.9, Cleveland 112.8, a 4-point home call.
My take: Atlanta by four is the one to watch, because the Hawks are coming off the biggest miss of last night's card, a 22.5-point home call that flipped into a 12-point Miami win. A tighter four-point lean tonight is the model recalibrating, not retreating. Portland by 14 is the card's clearest NBA lean, and the total in New Orleans is where the value conversation starts.
The NHL card: eleven games, Carolina and Los Angeles lead the board
Eleven NHL games tonight, and the sims are loudest in Raleigh and Los Angeles. Columbus at Carolina: Carolina 4.0, Columbus 2.9, a one-goal-plus home call across 280 simulations. Ottawa at Los Angeles: Los Angeles 4.0, Ottawa 3.0. Utah at Pittsburgh: Utah 4.0, Pittsburgh 3.8, a coin flip with a slight road lean. Washington at Nashville: Washington 3.4, Nashville 3.3, which is no call at all. And Vancouver at San Jose: dead even at 2.9 apiece, a true coin flip.
The rest of the card: Winnipeg at Tampa Bay (Tampa Bay 3.5, Winnipeg 3.1), Chicago at Detroit (Detroit 3.2, Chicago 2.7), Montreal at Dallas (Dallas 3.4, Montreal 2.6), New York Islanders at Minnesota (Minnesota 3.2, New York 2.8), Boston at St. Louis (Boston 3.7, St. Louis 3.1), and Buffalo at Anaheim (Anaheim 3.6, Buffalo 3.4).
The matinee: Atlanta by five and a half in the WNBA
One afternoon game opens the day. Golden State at Atlanta: Atlanta 85.3, Golden State 79.9, a 5.5-point home call across 360 simulations, tipping at 12:30 PM ET. A quiet matinee lean before the primetime slate takes over.
The report card: 12-for-19 on yesterday's featured card
State it plainly first: yesterday's featured card went 12-for-19 on winners, and the headliner landed. Milwaukee beat Tampa Bay 4-1 in World Series Game 5, the sims calling Milwaukee by a run and the Brewers winning by three to close out the series and claim their first title. The NHL card was a clean sweep, 4-for-4: Colorado beat New Jersey 5-2, with Colorado scoring 5 against a projected 5.1, plus Washington beat Philadelphia 5-2, Edmonton beat Calgary 4-0, and Seattle beat Toronto 5-4, a sharp bounce back from Tuesday's 3-for-11 NHL card.
The NBA went 7-for-12. Toronto beat Orlando 129-99, Houston beat Milwaukee 132-100, New York beat Chicago 133-127, Cleveland beat Washington 121-111, the closest call of the night, an 8.9-point home lean finishing as a 10-point win, plus Detroit beat Charlotte 97-89, Dallas beat Oklahoma City 120-96, and Los Angeles Lakers beat Los Angeles Clippers 103-87. The misses were real: Miami beat Atlanta 129-117 after the sims had Atlanta by 22.5, the biggest miss of the night, and Golden State beat Minnesota 119-114, Philadelphia beat Indiana 114-109, Denver beat New Orleans 104-91, and San Antonio beat Utah 117-111 flipped the other leans. In college, the card went 0-for-2: Jacksonville State shut out New Mexico State 24-0 after the sims had New Mexico State by 2.2, and Kennesaw State beat Middle Tennessee 44-28 to flip the 9.4-point home call. Twelve winners right, seven wrong, the World Series call landed, and the NHL card perfect. That is an honest winning night, and the totals and player projections are where the value held up best.
GameSim line: Carolina by a field goal at Lambeau, North Texas rolls at home, and Portland handles Memphis out west.
All scores above are MyGameSim projections from the simulations run so far, and none of the games today have been played yet. Yesterday the featured calls went 12-for-19 on winners, with the World Series Game 5 call landing and the NHL card going a perfect 4-for-4. Run your own sims, check the totals and projected stats, and tell me where the model is wrong today.
