October 17 brings a marquee college football slate with three ranked matchups and very little room for error. The headliner is a Big Ten meeting between No. 1 Ohio State and No. 5 Indiana, where GameSim’s projection is about as close as it gets. Elsewhere, Notre Dame travels to BYU for a top-10 non-conference test, and Georgia welcomes Auburn in an SEC clash between teams separated by 17 spots in the rankings.

Ohio State at Indiana
The margin between these two is razor-thin in the model: Ohio State is projected for 31.4 points and Indiana for 31.2. Across 800 simulations, the Buckeyes hold a 50% win probability—a narrow edge that leaves the result feeling wide open. The matchup also pairs the nation’s top-ranked team with No. 5 in a conference game, giving the afternoon a genuine top-of-the-table atmosphere.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is projected for 333.3 passing yards and 3.7 touchdowns, a forecast that puts the spotlight on whether the Buckeyes can make their passing game the difference. Indiana’s Josh Hoover is projected for 242 yards and 2.6 passing touchdowns, while Lee Beebe adds a potential ground-game spark with 106.5 rushing yards and 0.7 touchdowns. That combination gives the Hoosiers a path to keep pace if their offense can turn those projected contributions into sustained drives. See the Ohio State-Indiana prediction.
Notre Dame at BYU
The rankings say this should be tight: No. 8 Notre Dame visits No. 9 BYU. The model, however, sees a more pronounced gap, projecting BYU to win 35.5-22.0 with a 69% win probability. That contrast makes the matchup especially intriguing: can the Irish turn a meeting of near-equals on paper into a game played on their terms, or will the Cougars’ projected scoring edge show up?
BYU quarterback Bear Bachmeier is forecast for 201.3 passing yards and 2.9 passing touchdowns, plus 56.8 rushing yards. For Notre Dame, C.J. Carr’s projection stands at 241.9 passing yards and 1.9 touchdowns. The model points to a potential difference in how each quarterback’s production reaches the scoreboard, while Bachmeier’s rushing projection adds another dimension for the Irish to account for. Notre Dame and BYU meet in a non-conference game with plenty of ranked-team intrigue. Explore the Notre Dame-BYU prediction.
Auburn at Georgia
In the SEC, No. 19 Auburn faces No. 2 Georgia, with the model projecting a 38.0-21.8 Bulldogs win and a 73% win probability for the home side. Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown is projected for 248.3 passing yards and 1.7 touchdowns, while also adding 38.2 rushing yards. Georgia’s Gunner Stockton is forecast for 235.6 passing yards and 2.5 touchdowns. If those passing projections hold, the difference may come down to which team gets more from its supporting cast: Georgia’s Dwight Phillips Jr. is projected for 53.6 rushing yards and 0.6 touchdowns.
It’s a substantial model lean, but a ranked SEC matchup brings its own pressure and plenty to watch on both sides of the ball. Auburn will look to make its road challenge count against Georgia. View the Auburn-Georgia prediction.
