College basketball does not usually start in September, and it almost never starts outdoors. On Sunday, Virginia opened its preseason at Credit One Stadium in Charleston, S.C., as part of The LinkU Invitational, the earliest college basketball game of the year and the first played outdoors since 2022. For most of the afternoon, roughly half the court sat in the shade and the other half in the sun.
