It’s already started. Wake Forest beats somebody at or near the top of the ACC, and it’s bad for the league. I have to admit this narrative bothers me. It bothers me because it’s lazy. Duke also gets a heavy dose of this lazy analysis when they beat teams too. It’s teams and wins, not brands.
Swap this resume with Clemson or Florida State and Wake Forest is ranked 15-22 Sunday. Why? How about P4 OOC win at Purdue, a win over ranked Louisville at Louisville Saturday, then a competitive 13-point loss to Miami. That leaves Wake Forest 3-1. Penn State is 3-1 with wins over Marshall, Temple, and Buffalo. They lost to unranked Wisconsin at home 24-20. They are currently ranked 13th, and because voters tend to love their brand names and are invariably lazy, the Nittany Lions will likely still be ranked tomorrow. Who has the better resume? Don’t lie, it’s obviously Wake Forest. Now you tell me who should be ranked tomorrow.

You may beat them, but it won’t be becuase Wake Forest isn’t as well coached as you. Wake Forest Jake Dickert has turned Wake Forest into a competitive quality ACC team. His teams play hard, are aggressive, and rarely beat themselves. Wake may not have elite across the board talent, but they are tough out.
Saturday, Wake Forest beat a Louisville team 30-27 that was fresh off beating SMU, and took a top-10 Ole Miss team to the final seconds in a loss. I think we are finding out that the Deacs are pretty darn good at the line of scrimmage. Ask Miami, who Wake Forest controlled the line of scrimmage at in their game in the 2nd half.
Wake Forest ran for 177 yards on the ground against a solid Louisville defensive front. The Cardinals, with a quality group of backs, could only muster 75 yards on the ground. QB Gio Lopez was efficient through the air, completing 12 out of 19 passes for 225 yards and a TD.
Just use the results – that’s all I ask.
