Class of 2019 Syracuse Orange basketball target Isaiah Stewart has committed to Mike Hopkins and Washington. His decision was announced at halftime of the Oak Hill vs. IMG game televised on ESPN. Stewart noted the importance of his relationship with Hopkins in his recruitment.

Listed at 6-foot-9 and 245 lbs, Stewart is a consensus top 10 recruit in his class. He trimmed his final list of schools to Syracuse, Michigan State, Duke, Kentucky and Washington before ultimately choosing the Huskies. He took visits to all five schools including an official to Syracuse back on October 12.

One of Stewart’s AAU coaches told Syracuse.com’s Donna Ditota of his Syracuse visit, “He loved it. He had a blast.”

“There are a lot of ex-City Rocks guys on the team and he talked to them a lot. It went really well. He was very excited about it.”

Buddy Boeheim and Howard Washington are former Albany City Rocks guys at Syracuse while Joe Girard will join the Orange as a freshman for the 2019-20 season.

Stewart has been playing his final year of high school basketball at La Lumiere in Indiana. Originally from Rochester, N.Y., he’ll will reunite with other former City Rocks teammates Naz Carter and Hameir Wright in the Pacific Northwest.
