Syracuse vs. Georgetown Will Happen, Possibly In NYC

If the last couple days have taught us anything, it's that it's going to take a very, very, very long time for Syracuse Orange fans to care about a rivalry quite like the one with the Georgetown Hoyas.

First, DOC Gross fired a missile across the bow of the U.S.S. Hoya by saying SU wants a 10-year series but Georgetown is dragging their paws.

Then incoming Chancellor nuked the rest of the Hoya army at his first presser.

In the aftermath, some Georgetown folks decided to react to the news as well, confirming on their end that the series will continue sooner or later:

"Georgetown has been, and is very, interested in seeing a series with Syracuse become a reality,'' Georgetown athletic director Lee Reed said in a statement via the school's sports information department.

"The Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry is one of the great rivalries in college basketball and it will continue,'' Thompson said. "In many ways, we are in uncharted waters. We have a re-launched conference, a new commissioner, and a new television partner with Fox Sports. As soon as we get a grasp on what our future mandated out-of-conference obligations will be and those time frames, the details with Syracuse will be finalized.

So formal, you guys. We need somebody who can shoot from the hip. And I can't think of anyone who's gonna tell is like it is quite like James Arthur...

"I think it's serious," Boeheim told ESPN.com's Andy Katz on Thursday. "I don't know if it's 10 years, but we'd like to get a couple of years in to get it started.

"We wanted to do it this year, but they wouldn't act until the summer. We had already filled the schedule with [series] with St. John's and Villanova and couldn't play them too. There is a limit to what you can do.

Interesting reveal No. 1. Syracuse wanted to play Georgetown this season but Georgetown wouldn't commit.

And here's interesting reveal No. 2...

Boeheim said the discussions with Georgetown are for a home-and-home series rotating annually between the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, N.Y., and the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C., but the Hoyas also mentioned playing a game in New York City.

Wait, really? Color me surprised. I thought the whole point of this series is that it takes place on Syracuse's home floor and Syracuse's home floor in Washington D.C. You know, so the Syracuse fans and a smattering of Georgetown fans can enjoy the games on Syracuse's home turfs. I mean, NYC is our home turf as well, so, fine by us (so long as it doesn't mean less games in the Dome). Just weird that Georgetown would want that. I'm gonna guess DOC Gross is fine with the idea.

All signs point to the series kick-starting again in the 2014-2015 season, which is great news for fans and the rivalry. The world is a richer place when Syracuse and Georgetown are actively hating one another.
