The announced attendance number for last weekend's game between the Syracuse Orange and Wagner Seahawks was depressing. The knowledge that the real number was probably 10K less than that was even more so.
However, there was one bright spot in the empty crevass that was the Carrier Dome. The students. More specifically, the freshmen.
"We're extremely excited about our freshman class," Giansante said. "Those kids over there, the majority of them are freshman. That's the kind of thing that can change everything. The freshmen comes in and it becomes cultural for them. We're talking about how can we honor them for showing up? Can we send pizza to the dorms? There were a lot of games last year when it wasn't that full."

No. 2 GET THOSE KIDS SOME F***ING PIZZAS, GIANSANTE!
Of course, it should be noted that freshmen got free tickets, so they better God damn be there. But just as Scott Shafer says that the football team's play starts with him, crowd enthusiasm starts with the students. When organized and enthusiastic, they can take a college football game to a different level. And with the "worst" home game behind us, I'd like to think we can get used to seeing a crowded, excited, LOUD student section.
We've got so many types of Syracuse fans to worry about, students are supposed to be the gimmes. Let's make it that way, freshmen. Cool? Cool.
