Syracuse: Dajuan Coleman Will Return Next Season For Fifth Year

The senior confirmed to Mike Waters that he will start grad school at SU and return for one more run.

Saturday's home game vs. the N.C. State Wolfpack is Senior Day for the Syracuse Orange. We'll be taking some time before the game to honor grad stadent Michael Gbinije, senior Trevor Cooney and senior Christian White.

There's another senior playing that day, Dajuan Coleman, but we won't be taking a moment to wish the big man well. That's because Coleman has already decided he's returning his his fifth year with SU.

"I'm definitely coming back.'' Coleman said. "I never really thought about doing anything else.''

"My plan is to start grad school. I'm going to start classes in the summer, but I'm not sure what I'm going to go into yet.''

Mike Waters asked Coleman if he had considered taking advantage of the grad transfer rules and getting a fresh start with another program but he says he "never thought about that."

Coleman's career has been disappointing thanks to two seperate knee injuries that cut short his sophomore season and kept him out entirely last year. This year has basically been about getting Coleman back to full strength and it's a good thing that he'll have a chance to really kick things into high gear next year and make good on those hometown hero dreams.

Coleman is averaging 5.0 point and 4.4 rebounds per game and is seeing about 17 minutes of action each time. While not the dominant force in the middle that Rakeem Christmas was before him, Coleman has at least been a stopgap to help SU deal with a lack of big-man depth while they wait on Paschal Chukwu to get eligible. Next year, they'll be able to team up for a much-more imposing middle.
