Will Gardner, who spent the bulk of the 2014 season as Louisville's starting quarterback, will play his final year of college football elsewhere.

Gardner's mother, Lin, posted on Facebook Tuesday night that the redshirt junior has received his release from Bobby Petrino, and that he plans on transferring to another program for his final season. Card Chronicle has confirmed that this is indeed Gardner's intention.

Facing the unenviable task of being the quarterback who replaced Teddy Bridgewater, Gardner started seven games for Louisville in 2014 before suffering his third major knee injury in four years. Before suffering that injury, he threw for 1,669 yards and 12 touchdowns, with just three interceptions. Despite generating a significant amount of buzz at the start of fall camp, Gardner did not take a snap for Louisville in 2014.

There's no official word just yet on schools that Gardner might be looking at, but there has been some buzz for a couple of weeks now that Western Kentucky could be a potential landing spot.

Wherever he winds up, best of luck to Will on the rest of his college career. He was an outstanding example for the rest of the program during his time here.
