The center was recruited by Kevin Stallings and used sparingly by Jeff Capel

Sophomore center Peace Ilegomah will transfer out of Pitt, according to a press release from the university on Wednesday. It is unclear where he intends to transfer to, but during his time with the Panthers, he saw limted action and averaged 0.7 points and 1.0 rebounds over 30 games.

”We support Peace’s decision to continue his academic and athletic career at another institution,” Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said. “We are thankful for his contributions to the Pitt program and wish him well.”

Ilegomah was recruited by former Pitt coach Kevin Stallings and committed to the program on Feb. 3, 2017. He was part of a recruiting class hastily assembled by Stallings in the wake of an exodus of talent from Pitt following the 2016-17 season. At the time of his commitment, the product of Montverde Academy in Montverde, Florida, had not been assigned a star rating from Rivals but was considered a three-star recruit by 247Sports. The only other Division I scholarship offer Ilegomah held was from DePaul.

Wednesday’s news comes as somewhat of a surprise, as Ilegomah was one of two scholarship players who did not request their release from the program following the dismissal of Stallings. However, Capel has been looking to add frontcourt players such as Kofi Cockburn, Karim Coulibaly, Hunter Dickinson, John Hugley and Qudus Wahab to his upcoming recruiting classes. And with Terrell Brown and Kene Chukwuka receiving much more playing time of late, it seems unlikely that Ilegomah factored into Pitt’s frontcourt plans in the near future.

The transfer leaves four scholarships open for the 2019 class, which means Capel should have a roster composed primarily of his own recruits at this point in the 2019-20 season.
