NC State running back Shadrach Thornton arrested, could miss Louisville game

NC State running back Shadrach Thornton's most recent brush with the law may force him to miss the Wolfpack's Saturday ACC opener against Louisville.

Thornton, who was suspended for the first two games of the 2015 season for an undisclosed violation of team rules, was involved in what appears to be a hit-and-run moped accident late Tuesday night. He was charged with failure to stop and render aid and failure to provide information after his moped hit a pedestrian.

This is the third time Thornton has been arrested during his time at NC State, and if he's forced to sit out Saturday's game at Louisville (or more games), it'll be the fourth time head coach Dave Doeren has suspended him.

Thornton was a preseason All-ACC selection after leading the Pack with 907 rushing yards and nine touchdowns a season ago. He also caught 15 passes for 133 yards and a score.

The good news for NC State fans, should something come of this, is that junior Matt Dayes has looked like the team's most capable ball carrier thus far in 2015. He'll enter Saturday's game ranked 17th in the country in rushing (454 yards) and third in scoring (9 touchdowns). Dayes is averaging 6.0 yards per carry and has rushed for over 100 yards in all four of the Wolfpack's games to date.
